Not The Top Shelf

The Paralympics of 2012, for a short time anyway, brought to the general view the courage and fortitude of those with disabilities. It didn't however seem to effect the way society viewed disability to any great degree. Within less than a year the Condems have reduced disability benefit but they will, no doubt, once again be looking after their own. I know it's no comparison but when my partner broke her ankle and twisted a ligament in the other leg I had to push her around in a wheelchair for nearly two months. It highlighted for us the lack of consideration given to disabled people. No automatic doors in four large stores in Bristol for example. Rude thoughtless people pushing, shoving and tutting. The other side of the coin, I and several other people had occasion to jump out of the way of a crazy old man on motorized wheelchair recently who was hurtling along the pavement at quite a speed. Having said that today's pictures shows that, without help, the lady cannot possibly reach the top row of magazines.
