A better Whitney Show

This new little show, “Dawn of the Modern: 1900-1930,” draws almost entirely from the Whitney’s own holdings and is infinitely better than the Biennial. Some of the artist names were familiar to me, many not.

The main blip shows two sculptures by Elie Nadelman in the foreground; in the background is one human by undesignated parents.

Extra #1 is a 1914 painting by Oscar Bluemner; extra #2 is a 1920 photo by Taizon Kato. Both were born elsewhere (Germany, Japan) but ended up in America, which is what qualified them for the Whitney (officially a museum of American art).
