Grave robin

More grave surveying today. Some of the older ones have sunk quite a bit and so, in order to record the full inscription, it can be necessary to peel back the turf (and then make it good again). As I was doing so this morning, who should appear but a robin? It was worth the effort in the case of this grave from the 1700s as the last line read, very clearly, “aged 94 years”. Not bad at all for that time!
