Death of a cloud
We decided after breakfast to take ‘Arry the camper van to the High Coast, and in particular to Rotsidan. The track there ends about 300 metres from the sea, but it’s a long way from the road and we were sure it would be very quiet, this early in the season. As I sit here and write there is one other camper van here, but with a grove of firs between us we both feel happily alone, surrounded by forest.
It was a day of dynamic air and sky. Huge cumulus clouds marched across the sky shedding strong gusts and snow across the ground in front of their track. They were impressive to watch as they swept across the coast and then out over the sea.
As we walked along the smooth rocks beside the sea we watched the cloud I’ve photographed here. Over the land it seemed a fierce object, maybe 7 kilometres long, and for about half an hour over the water it carried on like that, blasting the sea with its gust fronts. But over the cold sea there was no more solar energy to pick up and the cloud quietened down and started to shrink.
By the time we’d finished our walk, an hour later, the cloud was just a small piece of fluff drifting towards Finland.
