Mulberries
A busy day with Frieda, who was not at her best. Jack and Marianna had been away camping with her, over the long weekend with some friends, in the New Forest. They'd had a great time, but she was tired out today, and - uncharacteristically - a bit grumpy. Maybe she's picking up the cues from her Dad, who is not at his best either. He has taken a massive risk in leaving his job without anything new to go to. At the moment he's enjoying the initial euphoria of having a break. But I sense quite a lot of restless unease under the surface too, and Richard and I both wonder how the next few weeks/months will go. There's not much we can do, other than keep him company while he works his way through it all and tries to find a new professional direction.
At the end of the day I caught the last of the light in the garden, and saw that mulberries are already setting on the small espalier-trained tree.
