Grass Writing
Literary : concerning the writing, study, or content of literature, especially the kind valued for the quality of form.
This is a nice example of a form of Chinese calligraphy called 'grass writing'. It is a poem and was made for me by a man in a market in Shanghai. The smaller writing down the left hand side is my name. I had a copy of the poem which was taped to the back of the picture but sadly it has been lost in the course of subsequent moves....or perhaps just bad housekeeping. When the man was almost finished transcribing the poem for me he made a mistake, put down his brush, got out another piece of rice paper and started over. I would never have known that he made a mistake, but I could certainly tell that this second copy didn't look anything like the first one. There is a lot of artistry involved in these transcriptions.
The beeping has begun again...this time in a different place, a lot across the road above us. There was no house there before the fire, so we don't know if they are building a new house or digging a pool for the house that burned down, has been rebuilt and used to have a pool.
Janet and Paul's house is getting bright yellow vapor barrier before the siding goes on. It is beginning to look like a house.
Bart and Rene's house on the other side still looks like a cement fortress with a black tar vapor barrier beneath the elevation line...and that is just the foundation which is over six feet high in some places. What happens next is still a mystery.
John and I talked about replacing our wooden porch with composite decking and a metal railing which would be more fire resistant. it's still just talk, but there is still some insurance money left....
Thanks to 60plus for hosting this long running challenge this week.
