The Woodland Garden (Sunday 1st May 2022)

The nut cupules of this copper beech (Fagus sylvatica purpurea) were pointed out to me by Refna on Friday, so I thought I'd grab an image of them. Copper beech is a mutation of the European beech and was first noted in 1690 in the Possenwald forest near Sondershausen in Thuringia, Germany. Ninety nine per cent of all the world's copper beeches are thought to be descendants of it.

More native bluebells are popping up in the garden.
