Sweet Woodruff.

Another do nothing day apart from cleaning the bathroom and finding a blip.  My knee feels marginally better so I'm looking forward to next week. This week has been a bit of a bore. Even I can get tired of the sofa !    I felt that sweet woodruff was a good blip for Mayday.
The classic woodruff recipe is for Maibowle Maiwein, traditionally drunk in Germany on May Day  Steep a bunch of dried woodruff in a jug of Moselle wine.  Add a couple of tablespoons of sugar dissolved in water.  Chill, and serve with thinly sliced orange.

But be warned!  Do NOT use sweet woodruff in any other way than as above, steeped in wine, as it can be toxic.  Alternative safer uses include using dried plants for scenting linen closets and beds. it was also used in the past to strew on floors.   The plant has no smell when flowering but when dried it smells of new mown hay.  Catholic mythology records Mary as using it to scent the cradle of Jesus.  There's a little beastie lurking in my woodruff.  Can you find it ?
