Past Times
Hambleton is a small rural English village in Rutland , England. We came across it on our round the reservoir bike ride today. Since the construction of Rutland Water in the 1970s, the village has been closed off on three sides by water and the area is known as the Hambleton Peninsula.
There were originally three settlements here; Upper Hambleton, Middle Hambleton and Nether Hambleton. Only upper Hambleton survives, the other two are now submerged under the icy waters of Rutland Water.
As we passed through the village, we passed the old post office which has the most teriffic example of the blacksmiths artistry adorning the front door. Actually it makes it look a bit Gothic - like something off the set of a Harry Potter Movie. There's a for sale sign up in the garden, if you fancy grabbing yourself a bit of history!
