Among the Gum Trees
The late afternoon sun shines thought the spire windows of Holy Trinity Finnish Lutheran Church in Canberra. We are staying in an apartment hotel in central Canberra and I've been wondering about the nearby church spire visible from our balcony. This afternoon I walked around the neighbourhood and found it.
The building is listed on the Register of Heritage Buildings. It was designed in 1959 by Frederick Romberg. The heritage listing document says it is a rare and well-preserved ... early example of the 1960s Late Twentieth-Century Ecclesiastical style of architecture. Its setting and design have produced a building of integrity, representing the ideal of innovative modern architecture and planning; clean, functional, uncluttered and well sited.
