Recovery
Today there were no tradesmen in my life. It's been quite a week. But today we slept in a bit; I took my time over breakfast; I hung out two loads of washing (having carefully cleaned the whirly) and made a rather good sourdough loaf. I pottered among the plants in pots and planned where I shall place them. I had coffee and lunch in the garden. Then I took the ferry over to Greenock and had my hair done.
In the evening we were out to dinner. It was the best of evenings - old friends and relatively new friends, eating, drinking and laughing immoderately together. Himself and I walked up to the Rectory - where we were being entertained - among the birdsong of a perfect evening, and walked home again in the silent midnight under the stars. My main photo is the view of the church from the Rectory path end - a view which I also took from inside the house, a view which I've enjoyed over so many years from the house that is now so changed from when I first visited it, 48 years ago.
The extra photo is of a picture in the hall of our Rectory friends, showing their climbing holiday in Skye. But what touched me enormously is that they've overlaid one of the photos with one of my poems, which I wrote about another climb, along the Aonach Eagach ridge above Glencoe. And it's there in their hall and I think that's lovely.
In fact, the whole evening was lovely. And isn't it wonderful to have a rector who also cooks like a star chef?
