Fables have a lot to say about trees that split rocks,  The tree is extolled as an example of fortitude and tenacity and becomes a metaphore for these human attributes. Life indomitably forges through difficulty and wins a place rooted in the sun.
But it seems to me the rock isn't having such a good time. It had never harmed a soul in the eons since it first cooled down but now It's been split in two for goodness sake . There's a different metaphore in that surely.
You can find its ancient cracked remains overshadowed by an upstart oak just below Gasgale Crags where the shattered scree ticks quietly as it cools in the evening sun. It's a sharp reminder that if plants don't destroy you, the weathering will. It a hard existence, being a rock..
