North Light
We had a long day out, walking all the way up the L1 (Lundy’s nearest thing to a road!) to the North Light. Lundy has three lighthouses. The Old Light was built on the highest part of the island, but when it was turned on it was discovered that it was often completely obscured by fog! For a while men were employed to fire cannons at ten minute intervals to warn ships, but in the end it was decided to build two more lighthouses one north and one south. These were more successful!
There is a difficult landing place near the North Light where provisions were landed, Rob and I climbed down about 170 steps. Seals and Razorbills down there to greet us.
We walked back via Jenny’s Cove for another look at the puffins, there were definitely many more today.
Then I climbed down to the Old Battery, where the guns were fired. It’s a great sun trap when the East wind is blowing!
