In between bouts of load shedding in South Africa, I joined an interesting call on ecological modelling with a key project partner somewhere in remote Tanzania. His line was dire and when this was pointed out he kept incredulously repeating ‘but I’m in town, I’m in town!’ That seemed to be neither here nor there my friend.

I took the world’s most scenic bus ride along the coastal road into Cape Town city after work to meet Erin and Mark. An evening of ginger ale, bowl of ramen, good chat and a darkened bar after the next electricity blackout hit.
