Strath Mashie
I had a decadent mid week day off and Mrs SJR and I took the dogs for a couple of new walks up the A86 road and had lunch at a brilliant wee cafe in Newtonmore.
The dogs got a walk at Bohenie in the morning. Next, at a forest entrance where the gates were off their hinges we followed a line of way point posts up through commercial woodland and reached open hillside which would present a less busy approach to Creag Meagaidh. After lunch we walked on an unmapped track above the Mashie Dam to an old sheep fank. There was a good bit of height gain and you could see north over the Spey Valley to the Monadhliath Mountains. The view in the other direction was sadly dominated by the Beauly-Denny power line towers.
We then had to revisit the Creag Meagaidh walk as I had dropped Caley's lead somewhere on that route earlier. Retracing our steps we found it after 10 minutes or so but it registers with the dogs as yet another walk.
It was a lovely anniversary day put with Mrs SJR.
