I love to see this queue outside the British Library - so many different people waiting to go in and claim a space for reading, writing, researching or whatever. We were going in to see the ‘Breaking News’ exhibition you can see on the poster. At least by now Gordon was in and I was ready to join him, having stayed back at the hotel to watch the announcement of the Women’s Prize Shortlist - the judges agreed with me on 4/6 so that’s not bad. And one of the others was one I haven’t yet read, but I thought might be there. (See below for the list).

Excellent exhibition about the media ‘the stories that shape us, reported or distorted. Stories from 500 years of news in Britain, under different topics - scandal, ethics, free press, fake news, alternative facts. Fascinating.

Then we walked up to the amazing development behind Kings Cross, which gets more extensive every time we go. We met up with our daughter (see extra - she had cycled in) and had a lovely long lunch and catch up.

We walked back down to the hotel and we are heading out to the National Theatre soon - Small Island.

The six shortlisted books are as follows:

Great Circle by Maggie Shipstead
Sorrow and Bliss by Meg Mason
The Book of Form and Emptiness by Ruth Ozeki
The Bread the Devil Knead by Lisa Allen-Agostini
The Island of Missing Trees by Elif Shafak
The Sentence by Louise Erdrich
