Early purple orchid

There is a protected verge near me , one of many managed by the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust, and at this time of year the purple orchids are just beautiful. They add a delicious splash of colour contrasting with the cowslips and dandelions. It is always a joy to go past this wide protected verge and the number of wild orchids seems to increase every year.
