Mushrooms and ice cream

Not at the same time of course, you’d be sick.

The hotel breakfasts have not been vegan friendly the last few days and I jokingly said to TSM that they might surprise us with mushrooms on our last day, and much to our surprise and delight they did just that. Baked beans also. I was in plant based brekkie heaven. They even cooked some specially sans onions for TSM.

My other big thing was to get a vegan ice cream before we left and amazingly we passed a gelataria that met my needs as we walked back to the hotel to collect our bags for the airport. Mango and chocolate. First class. TSM said it was too big a tub but I ate it all. No contest.

Our last sightseeing outing was the Casa Mila, another bit of very impressive Gaudi notable for its amazing roof garden, complete with guardians straight out of sci-fi fantasy heaven (see blip). He was way ahead of his time in so many ways - environmentally, ecologically, spiritually and in terms of his use of colour in the design of buildings. We’ve done a different Gaudi every day and it’s been fabulous; I knew little about the man and his work before coming here but they present his legacy really well and I have come away quite moved and inspired.

We had a fantastic blowout lunch in Honest Greens - a mostly plant based eatery near the Place de Catalaunya. Long queue to get in but well worth the wait. Best humus this side of Tel Aviv. Clever service system where they give you an electronic tracker so that they can find you in their vast range of seating areas and bring you your food.

Flight home was a breeze including the metro ride out to the airport which was just included in our 96 hour carnet. Although the orange L line you have to take to get there is one of the deepest I’ve ever experienced; I thought we had accidentally wandered into auditions for a remake of Journey To The Centre Of The Earth.

Been a great five days.
