Block and tackle

I joined with eight others this morning to help with a very tricky removals job. Friends are moving and have bought a village house which they are more or less gutting. Some large and heavy furniture including a brand-new American fridge had to be lifted from the ground floor to the floor above using block and tackle. It was a very delicate manoeuvre and a lot of consideration had to be given to safety. The sofa could only come in through an upstairs window so it was placed on the roof bars of a Land Rover and manoeuvered inside. By way of thanks we were provided with hot chicken and noodle soup and cheese for lunch. In the afternoon, I joined the painting group and worked on a canvas which is now almost finished.
