The Woodland Garden (Thursday 21st April 2022)

I planned to make this an abstract for Abstract Thursday, but decided I liked it the way nature intended. I think I may have strained or pulled some muscles on Wednesday trying to up-end the trailer as I've been full of aches and pains since.

Lozarhythm Of The Day:
The Marauders - That's What I Want (1963)
Unlike yesterday's LOTD this record has never been in my collection, but when I heard it on Robert Plant's show, standing in for Iggy Pop, I recognised it immediately, despite probably not having heard it since 1963. The Marauders were a local band from Stoke-on-Trent who put this out as their first single, around the time the Beatles were releasing She Loves You, so this can be seen as being ahead of its time. The producer drafted in Jimmy Page to add rhythm guitar, from when he was pre-Yardbirds and pre-Led Zeppelin and was a jobbing session guitarist. This single has been in Robert Plant's Record Box from then until now. The band were popular, playing many times at Liverpool's Cavern Club, but unfortunately, critical acclaim and radio plays didn't translate into sales and the band only made one or two more records before disbanding.
This was before bands mostly wrote their own material and was an off-the-peg new song from songwriters John Carter and Ken Lewis that went on to be covered by nine other bands including the Liverpool Five, but never became a hit.
