Diary of an Edinburgher

Still COLD!

No gym for me today - it’s sometimes too busy at the weekends. That’s my excuse anyway. But I did do a bit of housework instead. JR went, of course.

Then I took Archie out to the Links while JR went into town to return a pair of shoes she decided she didn’t need/want. Actually, we popped in to see our neighbour (Archie looks in her gate every time we pass) to tell her about the holiday (and to warm up).

We walked round the Links with a couple of folk with their big old shaggy dog called Archie. Wee Archie loved him, gambolled about and ran around him like a puppy. And piddled everywhere Big Archie piddled. They walked much faster than me, and I could see what was going to happen - Archie would have headed off across the road with them, so on the lead he went.

Back home and I watched a film - Spotlight - which was very good. It’s the true story of the Boston Globe’s investigation into historic child abuse by Catholic priests. They thought they were looking at 13 priests, but discovered it was 87 - in Boston alone. All known by Cardinal Law and covered up, the abusers moved on to another church. When they published the story, hundreds more victims of child abuse contacted them. Not a story confined to Boston, of course. Cardinal Law resigned in 2002, and was promoted to the Vatican…

When JR came home, she took Archie out for another walk, round the lanes and to the cemetery. The lanes don’t look very exciting, but I used to take him there when he was a wee puppy and I first started letting him off the lead safely.

Still freezing cold here, and about to turn colder next week when the wind comes from the Arctic for a change. I don’t think the beautiful blossom will last long…
