Long Day

Was it worth it, only time will tell.
A symposium held at RAF St Mawgan for the various Veterans Charities and organisations in Cornwall. I’m not certain who was invited to attend but there were several noticeable absentees.
I attended on Joshua’s last full day of leave only because I will see him next week otherwise I would have spent the day with him.

RAF St Mawgan, a sprawling base that gives the appearance of being run down and neglected due in the main to most of the buildings being mothballed and the comparatively small number of RAF personnel stationed there.
Six and a half hours of being in the audience, some presentations were upbeat, some were delivered in a monotone, some were “death by PowerPoint”, all were relevant and interesting but what’s the next step?, where do we progress to? The Independent Advisor to the Office For Veteran Affairs gave a final upbeat message so we shall see.

One thing that did take me by surprise; the Cornwall Council glossy Armed Forces Day 2023 bid magazine, there towards the end, my name listed as a supporter.

I left and drove into Newquay to pick up Joshua and Tiana who had spent the afternoon there and we headed home.
For dinner and by special request from Joshua I cooked Monkfish Curry and even if I say so it was bloody lovely.

The last night of leave is always a little melancholy but I’ll get to see him next Friday, might be a while for Mrs S and Sam.
