Radcliffe Camera
Spent this morning mooching around in Oxford on my own, drinking coffee, loving the Ashmolean, and taking a few photos.
This is the Radcliffe Camera, camera meaning room in Latin apparently. This library is one of the many beautiful buildings in Oxford, but this is off limits for muggles like me. Matt spoils himself occasionally studying here, (no pens only pencils allowed). One of the things that amazes me about Oxford colleges and university are their incredible libraries. Underneath the Rad Cam is space for 600,000 books. Most of the books in Oxford are under ground, and most of the books belonging to the University are not in Oxford.
When Matt matriculated - Oxford speak for a ceremony of induction, he had to swear not to burn the books. This goes back a century or two to when books were not replaceable and were the knowledge. They didn't unfortunately get him to swear not to burn the candle at both ends.
partly chose this blip as i tried out a new programme, hugin. It's a panorama, mosaic sticher, free to download and this is 21 photos that it stitched together without any imput from me other than telling it which images to import. I've a bit to learn about rectilinear, cylindrical etc etc but I'll be playing a bit more with it.
