Kaleidoscope

Yesterday morning Shadow had her breakfast, and sat on the swing just above the cat food, which I had replenished. And was guardian of the cat food. The parade of the gingers came along next very aware Shadow was monitoring their wet cat food consumption from barely two feet above their heads.. Only 3 bites each, insisted Shadow...or at least they only took 3 wary bites before they left.

Then along came Mr Magpie. You're not having any cat food said Shadow. My Magpie was hopping and Shadow sent him packing. A few moments later Mr Magpie was back. No, said Shadow and sent Mr Magpie packing again. Shadow is only small, the Magpie is bigger than she is. For a third time Mr Magpie comes into land. He is hopping mad and furious by now now. Shadow sends him packing again.

I go to the kitchen to make a cuppa tea, and return. Shadow has gone. And so it seemed had Mr Magpie. It looked like an interspecies incident had taken place. All my plastic pots and stackable strawberry planters had been sent flying.

I was worried. This was early morning. There were no stray cats the rest of the day, and no Shadow, and no Mr Magpie.

This morning I went out while it was still pitch black to open the cat diner early. Shadow was waiting on my wooden swing and she seemed fine. She ate a bowl full, and left, no sitting on the swing after eating today. Moments later while it is still pitch black outside comes along cocky Mr Magpie who thinks he is getting that bowl of wet cat food. No, you are not I thought. I didn't have anything to hand, but I could slam my window hard. Mr Magpie flew off. It is now 3 hours later, 7am and he had not returned. That easy I thought? No, he had been planning a new strategy, and came in from another angle where I had no chance of seeing him come in, snatched one small piece, and flew off before I could react.

Shadow creeps out of the undergrowth, looks at me and says, Hey I have this covered, Mr  Magpie took me by surprise too.

So, the guardian of the cat food (Shadow) is guarding by stealth from the cover of the undergrowth...

Creative today...another wild flower...Yellow Archangel as a kaleidoscope in Laboscope.

Now that I have been relieved from the scaring duties of Mr Magpie, Shadow has this under control, I can get on with my day.

Coffee? Don't mind if I do.
You have a cuppa as well...
