Edward 1 -- Hammer of the Scots
While chasing through Scotland in the year 1305 hunting the rebel William Wallace Edward took time to grant favours to certain Scottish communities. So it was in 1305 that here in Kirkcaldy the townspeople were granted the right to hold a three day market and fair around the time of Easter each year continuing right up until today.
This afternoon I walked through the site, nearly a mile long, as the showmen set out their wares preparing for the Grand Opening on Wednesday. The Market has become a showground attracting the local population to indulge in High Jinks.
I hope to catch the excitement later this week but here is a daylight trailer!
The only sadness is that his forces caught up with Wallace who was taken South to be executed; I doubt that folks on the Waltzers or Rock Rage this week will give that a first thought never mind a second one!
