Delft Day

Continuing our stay in this fascinating Dutch city, I cycled into the center on my own while L had some time to relax but also apparently do some cleaning and washing a so perhaps not so much relaxing. Enjoyed weaving around lots of pedestrians as it was market day and managed to find a gel seat to fit on L’s bike to make it more comfortable plus did the grocery shopping in the most well known Dutch supermarket chain - Albert Heijn. Barrel organs playing and a real buzz about the place and a visit to the older part of Delft made it a fun experience. Our plan was to then walk back into Delft and have a wander before treating ourselves to an Indonesian Rijstafel - classic dish or should I say dishes (see above) surrounding a bowl of rice. Many interesting flavors. It is difficult to find Indonesian food anywhere apart from the Netherlands other than Indonesia of course and here by virtue of the fact the Dutch colonised Indonesia hundreds of years ago. I hadn’t realised that the population of Indonesia is the 4th largest in the world after China, India and the US with close to 300 million people, and that the land mass is made up of over 17,000 islands.

The humorous event of the day was entirely down to my mistake - next door but one to the Indonesian restaurant that I had reserved for dinner was a Thai restaurant and it wasn’t until they served us a Thai soup that I realised we were sat in the wrong restaurant - quickly paid and made our way to the correct restaurant and as you can see, did not miss out in the end
