Houston, we got a problem!

A big problem, and it looks like I'm going to need rocket science to solve it. My external hard drives are no longer found by my laptop. I do find them through a detour but no longer through the normal route. a day of frustration and puzzling, because all the photos and files I want to keep are there, and an extra backup too. I'll try tomorrow to see if a powered hub does anything...
