It’s snow go
This view from the hostel window in Lario this evening belies how horrendous the day has been with not just rain since early morning but heavy snow and freezing cold winds. We are adventurous hikers but the weather conditions in the Cantabrian mountains are not human friendly for outdoor pursuits at present and we felt rather overwhelmed. The scenery is stunning, when the clouds part to give you a glimpse, but the ground underfoot makes hiking treacherous and we took a decision not to walk. Even our taxi driver was nervous of the slippery mountain roads. These snowy cold conditions look set to last for at least the coming 10 days into May so we are turning to plan B which is doing an alternative route further south for the next couple of weeks. We will return to the Cantabrian mountains another time.
In our pandemic, climate fragile world, I think we need to invent a word for “living with uncertainty”. You may plan to do something but simultaneously need to keep another two or three alternatives up your sleeve.
