Forest

If you go down to the woods today...

I lived in Cumbernauld for over 20 years and I don't remember ever having heard of Forest Wood wildlife reserve or the quirky wooden sculptures one may find near the main path (main photo plus extras). It was only recently, when walking through another of the Scottish Wildlife Trust sites in the area, that I saw this nature reserve marked on a map and thought it would be worth a visit.

OK, it's not the prettiest of places and it's a bit of a faff to reach (the suggested parking is on nearby residential streets which were rather full when I got there and there's also a dingy underpass to walk through) but once one is in the woodland itself it's not too bad. (An alternative would be to park at the nearby Palacerigg Country Park and walk to Forest Wood from there.)

But coming across these sculptures was a surprise and I enjoyed seeing them. Who needs to see the maui of Easter Island when one has Cumbernauld on one's doorstep?
