Crannog

We started the day with a game or two of Mancala and reading the end of the first Harry Potter book (again) before meeting granny and heading down to enjoy our hotel breakfast.

The Scottish Crannog Centre provided our morning's entertainment.  Sadly the Crannog itself burned down last year and all that is left of it is some of the wooden supports rising from the water at the end of the truncated causeway (where some charring is still visible) - pictured here.  However there is still lots to do.  The museum has lots of artefacts from the excavation of the original crannog near here, including shards of 2,500 year old pottery you can touch!  There is an "Iron Age Village" with a variety of activities to watch like wood turning and stone drilling.  More important are the ones we could  join in, like making and decorating little pots, spinning some wool, planting a broad bean, and sampling "honey bread fried in wild garlic oil" made with ancient grains.  There was even a puppet show, and a beach for throwing stones in.  A thoroughly entertaining and enjoyable visit, with a bit of education thrown in!

We had lunch in Kenmore (pleasant but not noteworthy) then headed back to Crieff to go to MacRosty Park.  We've passed it a couple of times and thought it looked good - and it was.  CyclopsJnr had a whale of a time spinning, sliding, ziplining, swinging and climbing.  The sun came out for us too, so we finished our visit with ice-creams in the sun!

We popped back into the Crieff Food Company to buy some delicious things to eat this week before dropping granny off and heading home.

We had a lovely wee Easter trip!
