Day 3
Leisurely breakfast the off to Inverness to get the train to Kyle of lochalsh . We then headed to Eilean donan castle for a tour.
I hadn’t realised that 5he Spanish who were sheltering there with the Jacobites accident,y blew it up. They had taken gunpowder from their stricken ship and although the English attacked the fortress were unable to penetrate the walls. But somehow the gunpowder ignited snd did the job for them. There then followed some skirmishes with the English later on in the year and the Jackobites lost. So sad as 50 women were widowed. It is in a very strategic position being in the confluence of 3 lochs
The extra is a young girl picking up whelks from the beach which will then be exported to Spain. There were quite a few people doing it as we arrived
Some lovely views on the way home back to Dingwall and Turlock castles
