Holy Mother! Save me from this Fiendish entrapment
Imagine a set of step-ladders, or a capital letter A
I am alone at the bottom on the left, above me is my line manager L, and at the apex is A.
Below A on the right hand side is H, and below H is the whole of the rest of the department.
A few days ago H confided in me that she had been head-hunted and wasn't sure what to do about it. I suggested she find out more. She has, the job on offer is slightly better paid, closer to home, less stressful, has greater long-term security, and is perhaps less toxic. I actually had to tell her to go for it! She has since been interviewed and been formally offered the job. All she needs to do now is visit the workplace to see what it looks and feels like in the flesh so she can make her final decision. She has been discussing with me who should step into her shoes. As the newest member of the department I take this as a huge compliment, and I am very, very discreet.
Today we all left the office early to go litter-picking locally. We split into three teams to cover three different routes and then met up in the meadow beside the river for a minor social event afterwards.
Those who had covered the station car-park returned to report that they had been asked if they were serving community service penalties. They had responded that they were simply engaged in an exercise in social responsibility, to which their antagonist had remarked that litter-picking should be a task for the homeless.
Line-manager L agreed wholeheartedly with that point of view and then went off to fetch something from a distance. During her absence the rest of us expressed shock and horror at that attitude, though nobody mentioned the fact that the absent party had shared that opinion. Just in case you aren't up-to-speed, Line-manager L is the very same individual who brazenly robs charity donations.
I have the most awful feeling that my blip journal is about to descend into a confessional of the obscene attitudes of my current manager.
