New series London A-Z: Abbey Road NW8....
....I have decided to start a personal A-Z of roads that mean London to me, probably many of which you will have heard of but one or two hopefully new surprises and new and informative blips.
After saying that, I have started (yes with an A), but at the country's most famous zebra crossing. I spent a couple of hours watching tourists from across the world playing a game of chicken with traffic on a busy London Road, whilst managing to annoy car, bus and coach drivers alike in the hope of finding a 10 second gap in traffic to stride across, stand on, lay down on a pelican crossing (have a look if you don't believe me).
Given the number of vehicle drivers that stopped and got annoyed, not understanding why the 20 people stood on either side of the crossing were not going across, I get the feeling that most didn't understand about the zebra they were about to drive across.
The more sedate tourist instead tried to find a spare bit of wall space to scribble their name and a message on the outside wall of Abbey Road recording studio. The studio is most famed for the recordings The Beatles made there with an album of the same name and one of the most iconic album covers of all time. (Hence the zebra crossing but I am sure that 99% of you already know what I'm talking about).
I managed to get lots of shots of groups of four striding across but then my eye was caught by Julita from Argentina, beautiful lady with a huge smile and flashing her t-shirt, the joy on her face was too much to resist not being my blip for today, a great start to the series, hopefully I'll have many more moments like this going forward and that I can make the series Come Together.
