A Trail of a Tale

Based loosely on the Sir Walter Scott story of the Heart of Midlothian the Flumlet, S, co-Nana L, three others and I were guided around parts of Old Edinburgh by Fergus, Claire and Cloe the cockapoo. It was based at the National Library of Scotland, where there is an exhibition about Scott.

As we walked from the Tolbooth, down Fishers' Close to the Grassmarket and into Greyfriars Kirkyard, we were told stories but were not there to merely listen, oh no! There was audience participation too - we acted out a dispute settled by Scott in his role as magistrate, we danced a jig in front of the Writers' Museum, sang songs about the herrin', and joined a song about Old Jock, the master of Greyfriars Bobby (who was played by Chloe).

The Flumlet, far from becoming bored, regaled Fergus with his knowledge of Burke and Hare and was interested to hear how Deacon Brodie made and kept an extra key for the safes he made, so that he could creep in at dead of night and unlock the safe to rob them.

As you see, it was not all about Scott but also about the characters that inspired his writing. Very well performed and suitable for all ages.
