Societa' Filarmonica Gaiole

Our little local town, Gaiole-in-Chianti, has its own small piece of Modernist architecture. It is the headquarters of the Societa' Filarmonica seen here behind the municipal fountain. It's the town band and music society. The band marches round the town and churches playing stirring music on all the high days and holy days. The teenagers all join and learn to play the clarinet or trumpet. And it's a vibrant community centre holding concerts and communal dinners in aid of local charities. The idea of the "Big Society" is alive and well in Italy :-)
