The Aberlemno Pictish Stones

Palm Sunday. The week leading up to Easter Day. I have already listened to the Sunday morning service, and have completed the publication process for the YouTube channel.

It is a sunny mild Sunday. After breakfast I did some grass cutting and then we decided to visit Aberlemno to explore the Pictish Standing Stones.

They had featured on a BBC2 about "The Art Which Made Us". Aberlemno is not so far from us and I discovered a route to Aberlemno which we had not travelled on before. Thank you Apple Maps, which offers at least three options.

After enjoying the Angus countryside we arrived at Aberlemno and parked near the church. Unusually the church was open and we explored the interior before photographing one of the Pictish Stones in the Cemetry.

The remaining stones are located to the northwest of the church building and are very well documented by explanatory boards located nearby.

The extras show the Roadside Cross Tone and Aberlemno Church.

The entry shows Pat well wrapped up walking along the road to the Roadside Cross. We spent quite a long time exploring each cross and reading the information boards. All were photographed in detail.

We returned home by the same route in reverse, exploring various side roads on the way.

We were confronted by a diversion which was not there two hours before and which barred our way to a derelict building we had planned photograph on the way home.

A reason for another opportunity to visit the area.
