The view from the eighth train of the last two days as it crossed the Royal Border Bridge at Berwick on Tweed on my way home after my short trip away. The views on the east side towards the sea were quite spectacular but I was on the wrong side for a photo so here is the view of one of the few remains of Berwick Castle which have not been destroyed by fighting or by the construction of the station and the bridge. The castle being so close to the English and Scottish border was often fought over and exchanged ownership but is now about three miles south of Scotland.  These remains were built in 1297 and called the White Wall and guard a steep flight of steps called the “Breakneck Stairs”
