Magnificent Magnolia

Among cheerful homes, one stands forlorn,
its netted windows grey and torn,
peeling paintwork sadly worn.

But, proud as the day that it was born,
towering over weed and thorn,
defying any looks of scorn:

one magnificent magnolia!
