Printing

After the Print Exhibition yesterday, it was quite by chance that we decided a visit to Farfield Mill was a good idea for another wettish day and that we came across a friendly printer who was keen to talk about his work. So Ella got to work the 1868 press and saw the print emerge.

Stuart Wilkie is an artist who mainly uses the old craft of wood engraving and has some lovely work. I wasn’t surprised when Gordon later visited the same studio with the other two girls and decided to buy a framed print of a Heron. It’s very good and just the kind of thing he likes.

All in all the Farfield Mill trip was a great success - lunch, galleries, more studios, more artists to talk to, the history of the mill to investigate and lots more.

On the return home the sun shone and a long walk was undertaken. Then we went to Penrith for an excellent meal at the Indian Plaza. A game of Careers was insisted on and they may eventually get to bed.

They get the train home in the morning. It’s been a lovely few days, but totally full-on. Catch up with everyone tomorrow.
