Indigestible

At Boulder Beach today, a White-faced Heron caught a Giant Water Bug. Having caught the bug, the heron seemed not to know what to do with it. At 60 mm long with a hard shell, it might be uncomfortable to swallow and digest. During the time I watched, the heron played with the bug, alternately releasing and re-catching.
