Costco at 11:08am

It often seems to take the combined efforts of both of us to have a conversation about something that results in an actual decision. Such was the case as we walked in the sunshine this morning discussing the pros and cons of going to Costco to get our second Covid booster. Oddly enough, there are few things good enough or cheap enough or numerous enough to lure us into the cavernous warehouse that is the store. But we do like the pharmacy, and Ashley, the person of uncertain gender who administers the shots in a very pleasant and efficient way.

The subject has come up a number of times, once with our neighbors who are both immunocompromised, and once with Jim and Dana who are just barely eligible agewise. There has been little guidance from the government or anybody else about whether to get it. I suspect that, like the handling of the whole pandemic the idea is that we are all grown ups, capable of making our own decisions about the wearing of masks, going to crowded places or getting vaccines. Given the pockets of resistance and the ridiculous politicization of a medical emergency the government probably just wants out.

The subject of going to Costco for a booster has come up numerous times lately between John and me, but the conversation sort of peters out without reaching a useful conclusion. (This seems to happen a lot lately) After several attempts at reaching a conclusion we finally decided that we would forego our coffee at Trail House, take Spike home and go to Costco.

I have never seen so few people in Costco. The pharmacy was a marvel of efficiency and we didn't even have a chance to sit on the uncomfortable red bench before our names were called and we were back in the vitamin department looking for flax capsules and glucosamine. Despite the fact that John couldn't immediately find his Costco card, which had split into two pieces and slid to the bottom of it's designated pocket in his wallet, we were in and out in under an hour.

John elected not to wait in the queue to get a replacement card which, according to the checker 'takes two minutes', because there were three people already in line, so we were in and out and back home in an hour.
Our first outing together, other than trips to Trail House,  in quite awhile and it wound up being to Costco. We need to do better.

Thanaks to those of you who put up with my eucalyptus dust inspired rant yesterday. I'm all better now. The wine and the good night's sleep worked wonders. I told John I thought that the guy selling his tree cutting services door-to-door must have looked around our neighborhood, seen all the dead trees and thought, 'There's money in them thar trees. How hard could it be?'
