Female Wood Duck
There was a lot of action at this box this morning at Huntley Meadows, with both the female wood duck and 3 female Hooded Mergansers showing interest.
I chose this shot because it shows off the pastel colors on the wing as well as a splash of iridescent green on the top of her head that I had never noticed before. It is usually the males that get all the photographers' attention because of their striking appearance. She is best viewed in Large.
It still felt like winter this morning with temperatures only in the 40's, but lots of glorious sunshine made it tolerable. Rain is expected for the rest of the week so I was glad to be able to make the best of it. AND, I got in another 3 miles of walking....while carrying heavy camera gear and tripod, so that must count as at least 10. ;-).
