Marks & Spencer No More

This iconic building was Marks & Spencer, Hamilton for over 50 years and closed for the last time on Tuesday.

Already all signage has been removed.

The picture was taken from the deserted multi story car park that serviced the store.

M & S was the anchor store in Hamilton town centre, without this draw the future of Regent Way shopping centre needs radical rethinking.

Pedestrianisation and parking charges were contributing factors. The planners need to revisit the utopian model and adapt to the changing retail environment.

The way forward is clear as demonstrated by M & S with a new Food Hall less than a mile from the old store but light years away from old warehouse style shops in outdated ‘shopping centres’.
