Ever Green

When I moved to Colorado Springs in January 1978, I couldn’t believe my eyes—everything was gray, brown, or beige. I saw no colors, no plant life. I thought this was the ugliest place I had ever seen. Evergreens were my saving grace, my link to colorful plant life, my connection to something familiar—home. Today, April 1, the dingy, gray season still dominates the landscape. I’ve grown accustomed to the winter season, but I’m still not a fan. I’m blessed to live so close to the foothills, where the emerald and forest green pines color my walks.
