Valentine's Bridge

Waiting for another war and
Waiting for my valentine.

Valentine's Bridge is the one really nice bit of architecture in Bristol's Temple Quay area, immediately northwest of Temple Meads railway station. The bridge's deck is S-shaped and partially supported by suspension cables. The cables come from an angled mast planted on the south side of the Feeder Canal, with the bankside turned into a little ampitheatre.

According to Tony Aldous's C20/C21: Bristol's Modern Buildings, this bridge got its name because W S Atkins, who designed it, phoned the clients to ask what to call it, and the date was February 14th. Simple as that.

It's good fun (and noisy) to cycle over at speed.
