A Dream in the making

Spitfire

Another aviation related blip today I'm afraid.

"It's the sort of bloody silly name they would give it" - These are the words of R J Mitchell, the Supermarine designer who came up with (probably) the most famous aircraft in history. It was to be called the Supermarine Shrew, but the Chairman of Vickers (which owned Supermarine) named it after daughter, who was a right little "spitfire". What a plane!

This example landed at Duxford this morning with two others from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight who are gathering for a official launch of the 50th season this coming weekend.
