Lower Compton (Monday 28th March 2022)

Swans to the rescue again.

The garage rang at 1525 to say that my trailer was ready for collection. They hadn't had to replace the tyres after its short run on flat tyres, so the charge was only for their refits after being pumped up. As Honeyball, the recycling centre in Lower Compton, closes at 1600 I just had time to collect the trailer and dash over there, arriving after some roadwork delays at 1545 hr. I got the most important stuff unloaded but had to leave before the trailer was entirely empty.

I drove on to a couple of small lakes a mile or so further along known locally as Hills Pools (the recycling centre and old sandpit workings are run by Hills). I heard a red kite as I arrived. There was nothing going on at the first pool but the second had this, one of last year's cygnets feeding from the bottom of the pool with its mother, and a couple of coots.

NuNu was commissioned by Geneva's Museum d'Histoire Naturelle. Mira Calix was invited to compose a piece of music using a range of insect noise recordings provided by the museum. On this particular version, she was working live with London Sinfonietta and Sound Intermedia at the Royal Festival Hall in London, to produce an interplay of orchestral strains and live insect noises
