Berkswell Windmill

The day started off with glorious sunshine, so off out I went to make the most of it. I'd noticed the other day that the sails had been replaced on Berkswell Windmill after being missing for over a year whilst renovation was undertaken, so I decided that would be my blip for today.
The mill was built in 1826, on the site of an old postmill. It has a lovely red brick tower and a boat-shaped cap which you can clearly see in this photograph. It also has an endless-chain winding, which was typical of a Warwickshire tower mill. The Mill is the most complete one still standing as it still has its sails and all its internal machinery and tools for making flour and animal feed. It was worked just by wind power up until 1927 when an engine was installed and used to drive it until 1948. It was restored by new owners between 1973 and 1975. More recently The Mill has undergone extensive restoration work thanks to a grant from English Heritage.
