Derelict Sunday

Thank you Marlieske for hosting. This derelict is from the nursery where I bought my new tree, Japanese Maple Summer Gold. I like how they've turned it into an interesting bed.

Fireglow was from further away. Summer Gold is much closer, cheaper, and will be cheaper to plant. We are due for some cold weather for a bit so it will be a while and I'll map out exactly where the new internet line is so they miss it. I had cut down a weed tree and then immediately discovered I really appreciated how it had blocked the view/gave me something nicer to look at than my neighbors' empty yards.

Fireglow is red, a brilliant red. Summer will be green, gold, and, in Autumn, Orange.

Today it was too cold to garden or see Cherry Blossoms but at least there were no early morning adventures with tiny invaders.

Russian troops, out of lack of discipline or poorly distributed equipment, have been using smartphones and push-to-talk radios. This lets Ukrainian troops find them and listen in. Russian commanders have been taking their cellphones away so they've been taking cellphones from Ukrainians and calling their families at home and complaining. Even amateur radio enthusiasts have been listening to them.

Several Asian bears were rescued from an animal sanctuary in Kyiv by officials in Germany.

Kate Capshaw and her husband, Steven Spielberg, donated $1M to Ukraine humanitarian organizations.

Actors Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher seeded a GoFundMe campaign with $3 million. The fund has raised nearly $35 M from 68,000 people and companies.

Pussy Riot, long a thorn in Putin's side, raised $7M with a "non fungible token"

Neflix, Amazon, Disney, and WarnerMedia have decided to pause or leave business in Russia.

I started watching Servant of the People. The production values are excellent. The lines are great - you have to pay attention to read the subtitles, you can't have it on in the background but it is good.

Microsoft, Apple, and Dell have suspended sales in Russia.

Hans Zimmer paused a concert in London to honor a Ukrainian pianist. Air sirens were going off, Alex and his unnamed friend defiantly stayed outdoors and played Time, a song from the movie Inception. National Geographic photographer John Stanmeyer took video and uploaded it to Instagram. I found it incredibly powerful: https://www.instagram.com/reel/CbS-DD-q5oO/?utm_medium=copy_link&fbclid=IwAR2cFF8oomNH2VQ54f8CLKec-_oE4FRfnjrU9DD8z6Toyo4EhhdLwTZf0jk

An emergency evacuation has saved kangaroos repeatedly shelled in Kharkiv. Volunteers recently saved rare spurred turtles, along with white-nosed and blue monkeys.
