Just Joey
The fabulous Open Garden we visited today was Kinclaven at Stirling in the Adelaide Hills. It was our 3rd visit to this garden in a 13 month period and is one of my absolute favourites.
Kinclaven is an exciting combination of 120-year-old trees and architecture, well-considered colour themes and modern garden design solutions in a blend of formal Italianate and more informal styles. Dramatic mood achieved with statuary, water features, terracing and the generous use of roses, succulents and perennials.
This 2 acre garden is quite steep in places and extends over various levels with different themes and garden rooms. The wonderful old house is spread over 2 1/2 levels. The origins of the house date back to 1880.
Just Joey is a large decorative coppery orange rose with quite large blooms that have waved and frilled petals. There were not many bees around being a cool autumn day, and this bee happened to be visiting Just Joey at the very moment I pointed my camera at this rose.
Better bee.
It is a strong and tough rose, ideal in our harsh South Australian conditions. This uniquely coloured rose is also notable for its sweet scent. Just Joey is one of the World's favourite roses, inducted into the Rose Hall of Fame in 1994.
